Garden Sitting, Someone Ate My Cucumber, Starting a Fall Garden

If you've been following me on Instagram, you've probably noticed that I've been #gardensitting while my friends are away in London.

And I love it! I'm in charge of cucumbers, purple carrots, blackberries, dill, basil, tomatoes, and an assortment of other goodies.

As you can see below, this week, two of five tomato plants are getting bigger! Unfortunately, some hungry groundhog or tomcat ate my cucumber. A few more have started, though, so I'm not too concerned.

And here's the big news! Garden sitting inspired me to start my own fall garden!

I picked up potting soil, smart pots, and seeds at America Beauty Garden Center. I know that I could have saved some money, but this was all under $50, and American Beauty knows what they're doing.

I know what you're thinking: "Broccoli, brussell sprouts, and collards! Why!?" I used the North Carolina Cooperative Extension's "Fall Planting Guide," sort of. I'm new to gardening so I think I was probably supposed to start my seeds early, and put my plants in now. Also, I missed the deadline to plant brussell sprouts by one day, but I don't care.

So here's my sweet little porch garden!

Also, remember that basil I grew in a vase? It's doing amazing!

So start your fall garden now, and let me know what you're planting!
