A Girl and Her Dog: Living, Loving, & Enjoying the Little Things

For the Love of FOOD: Meal Plan Monday

At my house, we've been trying to go to the grocery store every other weekend. Even though our pantry is pretty empty at the end of the two weeks, it seriously saves our budget.

So this is how long our meal list is. Fortunately, it still only ends up being twelve meals.

This is what's already in my freezer:

  • Gumbo

  • Chicken Soup

  • Butternut Squash and Barley Soup

So I distributed these and our Groupon for Dolce, cooked chili, and added one fun recipe. Doing this means that those large pot meals, don't get too repetitive.

This was the rough draft of my meal list.

This was the rough draft of my meal list.

  • Sunday: Chili

  • Monday: Chili

  • Tuesday: Fish sticks and fries.

  • Wednesday: Gumbo

  • Thursday: Chicken Soup

  • Friday & Saturday: Attending a rehearsal dinner and wedding in Columbia, SC.

  • Sunday: Pre-Thanksgiving with Dan's mom.

  • Monday: Butternut Squash and Barley Soup

  • Tuesday: Dolce (Groupon)

  • Wednesday-Sunday: Spending Thanksgiving in St. Louis, MO with my family.

  • Monday: Gumbo

  • Tuesday: Chicken Soup

  • Wednesday: Butternut Squash and Barley Soup

  • Thursday: Chili

And the chili was so good! Here's the photographic recipe.

I also added one pound of ground beef, but if you want vegetarian chili, you can just omit it. Also, I love butternut squash; it goes in almost everything I cook.

Here's more on how you can use big pot meals to cook for one or two people.

Oi! What complicated planning this time. I'm looking forward to getting ideas from your meal plans!
